Barry Wards recent purchase - a very clean 1952 S7 Deluxe
Dear Stewarts,
When I was a small boy my Dad owned a Sunbeam S7 Deluxe and I always promised myself that when I grew up I would own one. As time went by I got married, had kids and got a mortgage but the yearning for a Sunbeam was still there. Now the kids have flown and the mortgage has been paid off I finally had some spare money to fulfil my dream. So, just out of curiosity, I looked on ebay and there was an S7 for sale and it was fairly local. I was about to celebrate my 50th birthday and my wife said 'any idea what you want for your birthday?'
'This bike would be nice' I joked. 'Well go and get it' she said. An e-mail was sent and he replied saying that the bike was at his father's garage and when he gave me his address I couldn't believe it! It was just a 10 minute walk away. I must have been destined to have it! A deal was struck and he rode it round the following morning. It's a 1952 S7 Deluxe and has had a total nut and bolt restoration with most of the parts coming from yourselves. He carried this out about 4 years ago and due to personal circumstances had only done 149 miles since. As you can see in the photograph (above) he has done a superb job and it looks wonderful with its new paint and chrome. I look forward to many happy years biking.
Regards, Barry Ward

Tom Nordmeyers very clean S8 parked at the Davenport, Iowa Speedway, USA
Dear Stewarts,
I enjoyed your new site very much. The two photos are of my 1956 S8 taken at the Davenport, Iowa Speedway in Aug. 2004. The Chief Blackhawk Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America uses the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds to host the largest antique motorcycle event in the U.S. This event attracts enthusiasts from around the world. This slightly banked, hard clay, half-mile track has been favored by top riders for many years. The sentimental old gent who was minding the gate was slightly in his cups and enthusiastically gave me permission to enter the track just minutes before the riders took to the track to practice for the evening's event featuring vintage board-trackers from the teens, 20s and 30s. With a smile and a wink he reminded me to be gentle on his freshly groomed track! I felt very privileged as I toured this famous venue on the 'beam. Being a rarity in the U.S., it attracts a lot of attention everywhere it goes. Thank you for your involvement in helping us keep these wonderful machines roadworthy. |
